I am originally from Colombia, South America. After I graduated as an architect in Colombia, I came to Florida, and have been living in Orlando for almost 20 years.
I always wanted to work with clay. It was just a few years ago, when I found the City of Orlando Pottery Studio, that I was able to work with clay—most specifically hand building. I took a few classes at the studio and I learned different techniques, especially clay coils; I love working with coils. I create objects that can be decorative but also functional, such as the Christmas Tree, the jars, and the baskets.
Coils can be very challenging sometimes, but the final work can be very gratifying and rewarding. I also like to try textures made of different artificial or natural materials patterns, like leaves, to create small trays—putting together textures that create organic and irregular designs.
