I've been hooked on pottery ever since I took my first ceramics class in college 10 years ago. I moved to Orlando from California in December and immediately found my second home at the City of Orlando Pottery Studio where I spend most, if not all, of my free time.
I primarily focus on wheel-thrown functional ware and decorative vases. There's something very zen about the process of throwing a pot that is meticulously centered and aesthetically pleasing. I absolutely love pushing clay to its limits to achieve the balance of a well-crafted piece that is both functional and alluring. My “style” is ever changing but at the root of it is a blend of Eastern and Western styles, which is representative of my upbringing as an Asian American. When I was in college, I took a solo trip to Jingdezhen, China (aka the porcelain capital), to explore the city with a rich history in ceramic production stretching back over 2000 years. Learning from the master potters there had a great influence on my ceramic journey. - Nancy Chen Follow Nancy on Instagram: @supitsnance |
