Jackie Juaristi has been playing in the mud since childhood. Juaristi was born, raised, and returned to Orlando, where she has been an art educator for the last decade. She studied hand-building and surface design on ceramics, as well as painting and creative writing at Florida State University (FSU), where she also received her master’s degree in art education. As an artist, her work centers around presence and the process; she creates space and captures time physically and metaphorically with paint, clay, and intuitive shapes and forms. Currently, her work has focused on the inner child; her paintings are full of her favorite colors of youth and shapes that evoke feelings of celebration and energy. Her ceramics are covered in bold, retro florals and stripes, content in their slight imperfections. As well, her current line of ceramic ornaments are inspired by her favorite things, contemporary illustration, and the joyful work she creates with her young students.
