Heidi Galassini makes functional hand-built ceramics. Her background in architectural design is a strong influence in her work, which is generally minimal, incorporating a limited palette, and allowing details such as exposed seams to tell the story of how pots are constructed. Her surface decoration often explores the play of translucency and opacity, simple geometric shapes, and asymmetry. She appreciates her role in making functional objects and the ties created between the makers and users of craft objects, as handmade objects carry the spirit of their makers into users’ personal spaces.
