Alka Kale took her first pottery class at Tucker Recreation Center in the greater Atlanta area, and had years of training in ceramics at The Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
"I love to work with a variety of clay bodies and firing methods available, exploring strengths and limits of each," Alka says. "I make functional pottery including bowls, bottles, and other altered forms like teapots, mugs, baskets, etc. Occasionally, I get inspired and make sculptural forms as well. "My work is by no means flawless, but I do try to make things that appeal to me aesthetically and sometimes am pleased with the finished forms. I do, however, always love the process that takes a chunk of clay to a piece of unique handmade pottery that can be used every day, such as a mug or a bowl."
