Jessica Danielle Taylor graduated with her bachelor of fine arts in studio art, with a concentration in sculpture, from the University of Central Florida (UCF). Working as a ceramic artist, Taylor’s focus encompasses the utilitarian of the hand made. Her forms draw inspiration from the domestic while her surfaces tend to nostalgia and quiet contemplation of the “simple moment.” Currently residing in Orlando, Florida, Taylor works as a warehouse associate for ceramic supply distributor Laguna Clay Company.
Embracing nostalgia, quiet moments, and contemplative thought, I use line, color, and simple glazing techniques to create an aesthetic that is both calming and energetic. Deep tones reminiscent of the wells in our earth where rich clay is found, and softer tones to bring light to the darkness so often felt in our daily rituals. Exploring the domestic in its tradition, I create utilitarian forms that invite the user to experience and cherish the moments that are so often pushed aside in our ever-accelerating society.
